So uh, I see you’ve stumbled onto my blog. I’m not sure what you were looking for, but I hope it was entertaining or useful for you.
I’m really just putting this out to test out the website. Really new to this type of thing, I’m not sure if I’ll continue it, but since I’ve already paid for it, I’ll hopefully keep doing it for at least a year.
Why I Made This Blog
In case you’ve been living under a rock (I doubt it if you’re here), the world is really messy right now. The year is 2025 and Murica’ seems to be making enemies out of everyone left and right. Like, even though I’m not American, it sucks seeing it becoming like that.
Why do I care if I’m not American you ask? Because let’s be real America is a powerhouse. I don’t say this just because of its military power, I’m saying it because it was supposed to be a beacon of progress. Whether it be science and technology, international relations, or anything else, it was always in the top-3 in the place it mattered.
But recently, it’s regressing. I thought that, regardless of what Donald is doing (and whatever the hell DOGE is), the US would just continue to be a powerhouse. But in just six weeks, the world’s view of the US has degraded significantly, in no particular order:
- The abuse of executive order is insane. (Seriously, how much has he made in 6 weeks? Can he really bypass the entire legal system with executive order?)
- Since when has the US become an ally of Russia? (Even if he dislikes Ukraine, why not dislike Russia too?)
- Why would he defund cancer research? (The document that started it all is here, which stops any grants, freezing research for more than one month now. Personally speaking, I’ve heard horror stories from PhD applicants that their acceptance offer were rescinded because of this issue. I will make a post specifically on this because it hits a bit close to home.)
- Why did he decide a blanket tariff is a good idea? (And then he delayed it for another month for the second time — This just causes massive instability)
- Why did he fire national park workers? (Seriously, why? I’ve always thought that it was something ALL Americans were proud of?) (Add: I do hope he doesn’t cut down trees in national parks just to increase timber production)
- Why is Elon making decisions as someone who isn’t elected? (And why is nobody stopping him?)
- Why does he want to centralize crypto, when the whole idea behind crypto is decentralization? (And I quote: “the Crypto Capital of the World”)
Note: What I listed here is non-exhaustive. I’ll cover more in other posts, but I’ll probably not be able to keep up lol.
*COUGH* anyway, yes, because of the reasons above, trust in the US has degraded, drastically.
So, how does it relate to why I’m creating this blog? Well, to put it simply, I’m just tired of not doing anything. I think that the issue we have globally is misinformation. People can’t trust anything on the internet these days. Instead, they choose to trust in sources they believe are credible. The issue with this approach, is of course, if the sources themself are simply not credible.
So yeah… rather than just doom scrolling reddit, I’m thinking of doing fact-checking on things I think are either “too good to be true”, “too bad to be true”, or “sounds too dumb to be true”.
Anyway, if you’re here, please enjoy. Also, if you see me using non-credible sources and/or doing any type of logical fallacies, please contact me at [email protected]; I’ll check periodically.
Afterwords
This… took me two damn hours to write. Damn. No wonder no one wants to double-check anything, it’s hard, time-consuming, and tiring!
But… I guess this is a pretty good way to spend time. I know this is just the start, but it felt good declaring that I want to do some fact-checking. Anyway, wish me luck, hope I have enough passion to do this for one year.
